Police verification for Haj passports within 4-6 weeks: J-K govt

A helpline has also been set-up at CID headquarters to let applicants know status of their cases.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has said that the verification of antecedents for issuing passports to Haj pilgrims will be completed within a period of four to six weeks.

“Police verification will be completed within four to six weeks for issuing passports to Haj pilgrims…Character antecedents of fresh appointees in government service will also be ascertained within the shortest possible time,” state Home minister Nasir Aslam Wani told the Legislative Council in reply to a resolution moved by Congress MLC Bashir Ahmad Magray.

A helpline for applicants to know the latest status of their cases has been set up at CID headquarters,he said.

However,Wani admitted sometimes there is delay in the process due to the increasing number of applications.

The first batch of Haj pilgrims will leave on September 29 from New Delhi and the last is expected to leave by October 31. The pilgrims are expected to return from Jeddah between November 11 and December 12.
