Police officer shoots wife in central Kashmir

In a fit of rage,a Police officer shot at and critically injured his wife in Ganderbal district in central Kashmir,officials said.

Assistant Sub-inspector Mehraj-ud-din Baba shot at his wife Nayeema Akhtar using his service pistol at Kangan housing colony residence,40 kms from Srinagar,they said.

They said Baba fired upon his wife in the intervening night following an argument over some domestic issue.

Akhtar was hit by the bullet in the neck and was shifted to SKIMS hospital here,they said,adding,her condition was stated to be ‘critical’.

The police officer has been arrested and the weapon was seized. A case has been registered against him,the officials said.
