Over one lakh people participated in the Maasi Makam Car festival at Senthil andaval temple here today.
The festival began on February 9 with hoisting of the temple flag. The dieties of Lord Muruga along with Valli and Deivayanai were taken around in a three hour procession from 6.00 AM in the morning,officials said
The festival was also celebrated at Kumbakonam Sri Chakarapani swamy temple in Thanjavur district.
Thousands of people took a holy dip at the Masi Makam tank and offered worship to their forefathers.
Masi magam festival takes place every year in the Tamil month of Maasi (February to March) on the occurrence of the zodiac star ‘Magam’.
