Lashkar militant killed in Sopore encounter

One militant was killed in encounter but his identity was not immediately known.

A suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed in an encounter today with security forces in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district,official sources said.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of some Lashkar militants in Baghat-e-Batpora locality in Sopore,about 55 km from here,a joint team of police and Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off the area,they said.

When the security personnel were busy in house-to-house searches to flush out the militants,the latter opened fire on the search party triggering a gunbattle,they said.

The gunfight was going on when last reports were received late in the afternoon.

So far,one militant was killed in the encounter but his identity was not immediately known,they said.
