A militant belonging to a group of infiltrators from across the border was killed in the Gurez sector of Baramulla district in an encounter with the Army which has started a combing operation in the area,a defence spokesman said today.
The deceased intruder,part of a group of Ten to 15 militants trying to sneak into Kashmir valley through Gurez,was killed last night,the spokesman said.
The operation is still on,he added.
Gurez is one of the traditional routes that militants had been using in early spring to infiltrate into the valley.
Army scuttled a major infiltration bid when they killed 17 militants in a five day long operation in three different areas of Shamsbari range between March 20 to 25 in Kupwara.
Eight soldiers including a Major were also killed in the prolonged encounter during which a large quantity of arms and ammunition were also recovered.
