6,698 members of divided families cross along LoC in Poonch

Apart from people to people contacts,cross-LoC trade is also flourishing with the passage of time.

As many as 3,314 people have visited Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) from the Indian side and 3,384 persons from PoK visited this side via Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point in border district of Poonch since 2005,said the Jammu and Kashmir government.

“As many as 3,314 persons of divided families visited PoK from the Indian side and 3,384 persons from PoK visited this side through a weekly bus service via Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point along the Line of Control in Poonch district since the inception of cross-LoC travel in 2005,” state Chief Secretary Madhav Lal said on Sunday.

Cross-LoC trade is flourishing with the passage of time and trade is being allowed two days in a week from the Indian side,Chief Secretary was informed in a meeting here.

As many as 166 traders are registered to carry on trade from this side,out of which 140 traders are actually taking part in the practice.

Since the inception of the facility,trade worth over 150 crore has been made,out of which transactions of over Rs 82 crore were made in the Indian currency upto February last this year.

25 trucks containing permitted goods per day cross the LoC,Lal was informed.

This financial year,408 persons from the Indian side and 351 persons of PoK visited Poonch district.

Chief Secretary also visited Trade Facilitation Centre at Rangar and convened a meeting with traders led by their Union President Pawan Kumar Anand.
