The Rajasthan High Court Thursday issued notices to the state Assembly Speaker and the six BSP MLAs who had joined the Congress in September last year.

The court was hearing petitions filed by the BSP and BJP MLA Madan Dilawar against the decision of the six MLAs to join the Congress. The petitioners cited several judgments to argue that the merger is unconstitutional.

The bench of Justice Mahendar Kumar Goyal asked the Speaker and the MLAs to respond by August 11 when the court will next hear the matter.

The BSP has issued a whip to the six MLAs, directing them to vote against the Congress in any no-confidence motion or other proceedings in the Rajasthan Assembly.
