A court in Kaman on Saturday rejected the bail plea of Monu Manesar who is currently lodged in a Rajasthan jail in connection with the Nasir-Junaid murder case. His lawyers said they will now move the High Court for bail.

Stating that Mohit alias Monu Manesar has no connection with the case, his lawyers said in the bail plea that their client has been made an accused in the case solely due to ‘political pressure’ and that the FIR does not mention any alleged action by him. Second, the lawyers stated that their client works as a labourer and is the sole bread earner of his family.

They also said that nothing has been recovered from him and there is no possibility of him intimidating the prosecution witnesses or absconding as he is a resident of Haryana.

“We reasoned that at the time of the alleged incident, Monu was in a hotel. And the DGP himself had said that Monu has no direct involvement,” said advocate L N Parashar.

He was referring to Rajasthan Director General of Police Umesh Mishra’s statement in August, where the Mishra had said, “I would also like to inform that there is no direct involvement of Monu (Manesar) in this incident,” but had added that Monu’s role in the conspiracy is still being investigated. Later, the Rajasthan Police had clarified that Monu had not been given a “clean chit.”

Monu was picked up by the Haryana Police on September 12 and handed over to the Rajasthan Police. Currently, he is in judicial custody. “We will now approach the High Court,” Parashar said.

Nasir (25) and Junaid (35) had gone missing on February 15 this year and a day later, their charred bodies were found in Loharu in Haryana’s Bhiwani district. They were allegedly killed by cow vigilantes who suspected them of carrying cattle illegally, but when they did not find any cattle, they allegedly assaulted and burnt the duo to destroy all evidence.
