The Punjab Police have booked a constable and two of his accomplices on the charges of pushing a man into a tandoor (clay oven) leading to burn injuries on his face.

Constable Jasbir Singh (Mahlu) and his friends, identified as Lovely and Deepak, have been booked under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 382 (Theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The trio was booked on the complaint of one Sham (37),who works in a cloth factory, and is currently recuperating at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.

Police said Sham alleged that the three accused beat him up and thrust his face in an oven late on Wednesday night when he bought a quarter bottle of liquor from a vend. A brawl ensued between him and the accused, who snatched the bottle from him.

Mohkampura SHO Amrik Singh said that Sham also alleged that the accused snatched Rs 8,000 from him.

“Till today evening, when police came to record statement, they were reluctant to act in the case,” Harish, younger brother of Sham, said.

“Initial probe reveals Sham was in an inebriated state and was creating ruckus. His face accidentally hit the oven after he slipped as it was raining a bit,” said SHO Amrik Singh.
