President Droupadi Murmu will offer darshan at the Sabarimala temple in Kerala Wednesday. The President, who reached the state capital Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening for a four-day visit, stayed at the Raj Bhavan and left for Sabarimala in Pathanamthitta district – over 160 km away – by helicopter on Wednesday morning.

The Air Force chopper was slated to land at the Nilakkal base station in Sabarimala, but due to inclement weather, the landing was shifted to an indoor stadium at Pramadam near Kozhencherry. After landing at Pramadam, the President left for Pamba via road.

Trouble during landing

While landing at the stadium, however, the helicopter’s landing gear got stuck in the wet concrete at the helipad. After the President left for Sabarimala, personnel from the state police and fire departments were seen pushing the Air Force chopper out of the wet concrete.

Once the President reaches Pamba, the nearest base station of Sabarimala, she will go up the hill by an off-road SUV via Swamy Ayyappan Road. Temple priest Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru will receive the President, who will then perform darshan at the temple.

Dinner at Raj Bhavan, other engagements

In the afternoon, Murmu will return to Thiruvananthapuram and on Wednesday night, the Governor will host a dinner in honour of the President at the Raj Bhavan.

On Thursday, the President will unveil the bust of former President K R Narayanan at Raj Bhavan. Later, she will inaugurate the observance of the Mahasamadhi centenary of Sree Narayana Guru at Sivagiri Mutt in Varkala. She will also attend the valedictory function of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of St Thomas College in Palai, Kottayam. On Friday, the President will attend the centenary celebrations of St Teresa’s College, Ernakulam as the chief guest.
