Prajwal Revanna travelled to Germany on diplomatic passport, no political clearance sought or issued: MEA

The clarification comes a day after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote to PM Modi, urging the Centre to cancel the diplomatic passport of Prajwal, and ensure his return by making use of diplomatic and police channels.

JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna travelled to Germany on a diplomatic passport and he did not seek political clearance for the trip, the MEA said Thursday.

On CM Siddaramaiah‘s demand for revocation of Revanna’s diplomatic passport, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said such action can be taken only on the directions of a court. Revanna is said to have left India on April 27.

Meanwhile, the SIT, probing the sexual harassment allegations against Prajwal issued a lookout circular Thursday after he failed to appear before the SIT after a notice was served Tuesday.

Prajwal’s father and Holenarasipura MLA moved a local court in Bengaluru seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the case. The move came after the SIT moved jurisdictional court (Hassan district court) to invoke provisions of IPC section 376 (rape). Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara Thursday said another woman has filed a police complaint.
