Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch two key initiatives — the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), and the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses — in New Delhi on October 11, which is the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan, said Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday.
The PM will also interact with the beneficiaries of Central schemes as well as felicitate several members of Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs), he added. The two schemes, announced during the Union Budget 2025-26 and approved by the Cabinet recently, will be implemented from the upcoming rabi (winter) season until 2030-31.
The move is with an aim to make India self-reliant as well as reduce import dependency, he said during a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday. “While the country has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat and rice, pulses and oilseeds remain a concern,” he asserted.
During an event to be held at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in Pusa Saturday, the PM will inaugurate more than 1,100 projects worth over Rs 42,000 crore in the sectors of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and food processing, Chouhan said.
“In 2020, the Government set a target to form 10,000 FPOs, which has been completed. It is a matter of happiness that the turnover of 1,100 of these FPOs is over Rs 1 crore annually. Over 52 lakh farmers are shareholders of FPOs today. The combined turnover of all (10,000) FPOs is over Rs 15,000 crore. They are engaged in various activities, including production and processing… On October 11, the PM will felicitate such FPOs,” Chouhan said.
The turnover of 1,100 FPOs crossed the Rs 1 crore-mark during the financial year 2024-25 itself, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare said.
