Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday led the nation in paying tribute to the CRPF personnel who lost their lives in a terror attack in J&K’s Pulwama on this day in 2019.
“Homage to the courageous heroes we lost in Pulwama in 2019. The coming generations will never forget their sacrifice and their unwavering dedication to the nation,” he posted on X.
A suicide bomber crashed his explosive-laden vehicle into a bus ferrying CRPF personnel on February 14 in 2019, killing 40 jawans. Days later, India launched a retaliatory attack, which came to be known as the Balakot airstrike.
In Haldwani, addressing an event at the conclusion of the 38th National Games here, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said “the martyrdom of the jawans made the country’s borders safe”. He also praised Prime Minister Modi for giving a befitting reply through airstrikes in Pakistan.
The Pulwama attack and the airstrikes that followed have changed the way the world looked at India, he said. “It sent out a message to terrorists all over the world not to play with our troops or our borders.”
In the Valley, the CRPF organised a ceremony at the site of the attack in Lethpora-Pulwama to pay homage and respect to CRPF personnel. A CRPF spokesperson said the officers from all forces and civil administration attended the ceremony.
L-G Manoj Sinha also paid tributes to the CRPF jawans.
