At least 14 people were killed, while 20 others got injured after an overloaded mini-truck carrying them overturned in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district and fell into a 20-feet deep field early on Thursday, police said.
According to the police, the accident took place near Badjhar Ghat around 1.30 am when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a blind turn. The deceased, including six men and eight women, were returning after a function in Masur Ghughri village in the district, said Collector Vikas Mishra.
The driver has been identified as Ajmer Tekam.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.
“Around 14 people lost their lives in the accident in Dindori. We have announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. I have given the instructions to conduct an investigation,” Yadav said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the accident.
“The road accident that happened in Dindori, Madhya Pradesh is very sad. My condolences are with the bereaved family. May God give them strength in this difficult time. Along with this, I wish speedy recovery of all the injured people. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in providing all possible assistance to the victims,” PM Modi wrote on X.
President Droupadi Murmu said the tragedy was extremely painful and expressed condolences to the bereaved family members. She also prayed for the early recovery of those injured.
“The news of many casualties in a road accident in Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh is extremely painful. I express my condolences to the bereaved family members. I pray that all the people injured in this accident get well soon,” Murmu said in Hindi in a post on X.
