Tenure of Odisha chief secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena extended for 6 months

Official sources said Jena’s tenure has been extended keeping in mind the forthcoming general and assembly polls due in April-May next year.

The Odisha government on Friday extended the tenure of chief secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena for a period of six months till June 30, 2024, a notification issued by the general administration and public grievance department said.

The notification came following the approval of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) of the Union government. Jena was slated to retire from service on December 31.

Though no specific reason has been mentioned, official sources said Jena’s tenure has been extended keeping in mind the forthcoming general and assembly polls due in April-May next year.

A 1989-batch IAS officer, Jena was appointed as the chief secretary on February 26 this year. Jena, who holds a Master of Science degree in Geology, is a resident of Dhenkanal district in Odisha. During his career, he has held key departments such as energy, water resources, rural development and information technology.
