A three-year-old girl fell into an open borewell near a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district on Monday, news agency PTI quoted an official as saying.

Rescue efforts to pull the child out of the borewell, which is about 40 km from the district headquarters, are underway. The district collector and the superindent of police also reached the spot.

The child, who accidentally slipped into the open borewell, has been identified as Shoumya, the daughter of Pintu Sahu.

The incident took place at around 5 pm when Shoumya was playing in a field, PTI quoted Bargawan police station inspector Shivpujan Mishra as saying. He added that the depth of the borewell could be more than 250 foot.
