The Union government plans to observe a month-long ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ beginning September 22, the day from which the rate cuts will kick in.
According to sources, the decision was taken on September 8 during a meeting chaired by Cabinet Secretary T V Somanathan. It was also decided that a 100-day outreach programme will be launched to spread awareness about the next generation reforms, recommended by the GST Council in its 56th meeting on September 3.
A day after the Cabinet Secretary’s meeting, the Ministry of Animal Husbandry sent a communication to its officials, saying, “A ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ of one month can be celebrated from 22.09.2025 to 21.10.2025.”
The ministry also asked its officials to ensure the industry passes on “the price deduction benefit on value-added dairy and poultry products to consumers, thereby ensuring real consumer savings.”
“Price deduction due to GST reform should be printed on the packing of value added dairy and poultry products as ‘GST Bachat pack’,” the letter states.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has allowed the manufacturers or packers or importers of pre-packaged commodities to declare the revised retail sale price on unsold stock. The ministry has told the companies that original MRP shall continue to be printed on the packaging.
