Giving a clean chit to the local Haryana administration for the violence in Nuh earlier this year, National Commission for Minorities Chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura placed the responsibility of the violence on the “misuse of social media”, and said it was not an incident of “organised crime”.
“The event was disappointing, the whole episode snowballed due to misuse of social media, however, it was not an organized crime. NCM monitored the events that occurred during the violence proactively. From visiting Nuh and Gurugram to meet the victims to seeking a detailed report on the matter, the Commission has been at the forefront in all aspects. We also released an ‘Appeal for Maintenance of Peace and Communal Harmony’ in this regard,” said Lalpura at a press conference in New Delhi today.
Lalpura said that the Commission paid visits to affected areas and met with different communities, reiterating that local residents were not involved in the incidents of violence. Lalpura also spoke on Khalistan as well as the PM’s 15 Point Programme and other upcoming projects of NCM.
The Chairperson highlighted Commission’s recent achievements in the matters related to minorities including security to Jain Dharmgurus during their travel/stay, resolving Sammed Shikharji issue, implementation of Anand Marriage Act in various States/UTs, and resolving the issues faced by Indian Hajjis.
