The Manipur Government on Friday announced that the state’s Assembly session will begin on February 28, which will be its second session since the conflict broke out last May.
The only session since the start of the ethnic violence in the state was a one-day session on August 29, which lasted just 11 minutes and was wrapped up without a passing mention of the violence that had engulfed the state since May 3 last year.
Manipur Information and Public Relations Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh Friday announced that the Cabinet has decided to start the fifth session of the 12th Assembly from February 28. He said since it is the Assembly’s first sitting of the year, the Governor’s address is also scheduled.
Citing inability to travel to Imphal due to security reasons, the 10 Kuki-Zomi MLAs of the 60-member Assembly did not attend the last session. With still no thaw in the tension, it is unlikely that they will attend the upcoming session as well.
