Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday left for New Delhi to join the NITI Aayog chief ministers’ meeting, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair on Saturday, July 27.
Before leaving Imphal, the chief minister interacted with the media on the sidelines of an outreach programme. Singh expressed his confidence that his visit to New Delhi may bring some positive outcomes while citing the 13 months of ethnic strife gripping the state.
Singh added that he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the meeting and apprise him of the prevailing situation of Manipur. “I will request for an immediate solution to the present crisis. I am very optimistic and I hope something positive will come out of it,” Singh added.
The Chief Minister added, “It is my duty, now time has come; that’s why I am going and meeting him. I will take his blessing.”
On news reports surrounding invitations to 10 Kuki Zo MLAs of Manipur to be present during the upcoming Assembly Session starting on July 31, he said, “Invitations have already been dispatched by the Manipur Legislative Assembly. They should come and join. We will cooperate.”
Reacting to criticisms by the Opposition parties on the Centre ignoring Manipur in the Union Budget, Singh said they are engaging in “petty politics”.
“The Union Finance Minister had clarified regarding the matter. I would also like to clarify that the Union Government has already sanctioned funds, including for flood, victims of the crisis (violence) and others. We have received enough funds from the Centre,” said Singh.
