Nana and Anaspure made emotional speeches Monday, expressing the resolve to take forward the mission to help distressed farmers.
“Let’s not worry about what the government does or not. Let’s stand solidly with these families. Who would we blame if a farm widow’s son heads for jungle to become a Naxalite if we don’t give him the right to live,” said Nana.
Speaking on the occasion, Anaspure said while some people did not think twice before buying a branded cotton shirt costing Rs 2,000, the cotton grower got a measly compensation of Rs 1,500 per hectare in case of loss of crop. He expressed his resolve to continue helping farmers and has adopted a village in Marathwada.
Jan Manch president Anil Killor, theatre personalities Shyam Pethkar and Harish Ithape and farm activist Kishore Tiwari also addressed the gathering. Patekar and Anaspure also interacted with the farm widows on the occasion.
