Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Banks, Post Offices to create voter awareness; sign MoU with Election Commission

Banks and post offices will display voter education messages on their websites, social media and through posters, hoardings etc. at their offices and major locations, the ECI said.

The members of IBA and the Department of Posts will set up voter awareness for their employees as well as customers. These would carry out discussions and other initiatives for voter awareness, the ECI said. The IBA represents 247 private and public sector banks with over 1.63 lakh branches and 2.19 lakh ATMs in the country.

The Department of Posts will also put a special cancellation stamp with voter awareness messages on postal articles.

“Despite successfully managing and conducting elections by the Election Commission over the years in fair and peaceful way along with a significant increase in participation of the electors, there is also a concern that around 30 crore electors (out of 91 crore), did not cast their votes in General Election to Lok Sabha 2019. The voting percentage was 67.4%, which the Commission has taken as a challenge to improve upon,” the ECI said.
