Local BJP leader shot dead near his home in Odisha’s Berhampur

Police said a thorough probe will be conducted into the murder.

A local BJP leader was shot dead in Odisha’s Berhampur near his residence late on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Pitabas Panda, a lawyer and member of the Odisha State Bar Council, said police sources.

As per the preliminary police report, two motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at Panda near his residence at around 10 pm. He was immediately rushed to Berhampur’s MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot and scanned the CCTV footage in an effort to identify the assailants. Police said a thorough probe will be conducted into the murder.
