Both Suni and her husband Soman will be in the ‘driver’s seat’ in Poovachal village for the next five years.
While Suni has been elected as president of village panchayat,Soman will continue to be the driver of the jeep of the civic body, mostly used for travel by its head.
Suni (39),who won the poll on Congress ticket, was on Tuesday elected to head civic unit, whose top seat is reserved for women.
Mother of two,Suni said neither she nor her husband had any problem to adjust in their new roles.
“We have no complex or problem over our new roles,as some might think. Soman’s is a paid job and there is no reason for him to give it up because I have become the panchayat chief. Both of us believe in dignity of work”,Suni said when asked about the strange coincidence.
Suni said if it was not for the support from her husband, she would not have contested and won elections. “Ours is a traditionally politically-oriented family.
This would also help us to do our roles without any friction”,she said.
In Kerala,50 per cent of the seats in civic bodies are reserved for women.
