Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said here the party will not allow the sale of American author James Laine’s controversial biography of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji and threatened to burn the copies.

“How should we bear an insult of a personality which is so revered and anything written about him,” Thackeray said, while addressing a gathering of mountaineering enthusiasts.

The book,’Shivaji,Hindu King in Muslim India’,allegedly having derogatory comments on the Maratha king, has been at the centre of a controversy.

He said Shiv Sena would intervene if anyone sold or purchased the book.

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the decision of the Bombay High Court to lift the ban on the book by Laine, which, according to the State government, contained material promoting social enmity.
