Police have told Madhya Pradesh High Court that underworld don Abu Salem’s alleged companion, film actor Monica Bedi, should not be issued a new passport.
Bhopal Superintendent of Police (SP) has made this recommendation in a report submitted today before a single judge bench of Justice N K Gupta here.
The Bench directed that the report be taken on record and posted the matter for hearing on July 29.
Bhopal Police had registered a case of forgery and obtaining fake passports against Salem,Monica and others.
Monica was acquitted in the fake passport case by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in 2007.
The MP government appealed against the judgement in the Sessions Court which upheld Monica’s acquittal. After that the state had challenged the ruling in the High Court.
During the last hearing in the case,Monica’s lawyer submitted an application before the Bench, saying since the actress has to go on a foreign tour for various programmes, she be issued a new passport.
The HC asked the Bhopal SP to send his recommendation on the issue. Government Advocate Gitesh Singh Thakur said the SP has recommended that Monica should not be issued a new passport.
