MHA picks Narendra Modi baiter as adviser

Sharma told The Indian Express that he would be in charge of modernisation of the police force.

Kuldip Sharma,the 1976-batch Gujarat-cadre IPS officer who could have been Gujarats police chief but for his brush with Chief Minister Narendra Modi,has been appointed adviser in the ministry of home affairs.

Sharma,who took charge on Tuesday,told The Indian Express that he would be in charge of modernisation of the police force.

Sharma retired on December 31 last year as Director General of Police (DGP) in the Bureau of Police Research and Development in Delhi,where he went on deputation after the Gujarat government denied him a promotion and posted him as managing director of the Gujarat Sheep and Wool Development Corporation.

In Gujarat,for over two years,he fought a bitter battle against the state government for promotion as DGP. He approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) demanding that his grades in the Annual Confidential Report (ACR) be improved. The state government had also sanctioned criminal proceedings against Sharma in a 28-year-old case filed by an alleged smuggler,which was stayed by the Gujarat high court.

Barely two months before his retirement,the Delhi High Court cleared the way for his promotion as DGP.

Sharmas brother,Pradip Sharma,an IAS officer,was arrested in an alleged land scam case,and is now out on bail.
