Commonwealth Games Federation officials on Friday inspected the venues for the 2010 edition of the Games for the second successive day and the organizers promptly claimed that the delegates were “very happy” with the preparations.
The delegates visited the under-construction Games sites in three groups and like yesterday, the organizing committee held a press conference and declared that the CGF officials were impressed with the infrastructure.
“The delegates visited a few more stadiums and facilities for inspection on Friday. They were very happy with the preparations and impressed with the facilities”,Secretary General of the Organising Committee,Lalit Bhanot said.
Bhanot again emphasised the point that all the Commonwealth Games projects would be completed in time and there was no cause for concern.
“All the work will be completed well before the Games,we can assure you that”,he said.
Bhanot said that a workshop was organised for the delegates on Friday. “The representatives were given an idea about the preparations and other logistical aspects such as air travel and transportation”.
During the day,the delegates visited the shooting range in Tughlaqabad, the Jamia Milia complex and Siri Fort where the badminton event is scheduled to take place.
The capital’s preparations for the mega-event had come under the scanner after CGF President Michael Fennell wrote a scathing letter to the Organising Committee and questioned their ability to deliver a successful games.
Fennell had also sought a meeting with the Prime Minister to brief him about the tardy preparations but has not been granted any date as yet.
The CGF boss was miffed with the pace of the preparation for the multi-discipline event and feared it was heading for “partial failure” unless the organisers pull up their socks and got some experienced foreign experts on board.
Fennell, who arrived here on Tuesday night, has been leading the CGF General Assembly delegates on tours of the Games venues since the last two days.
He will also chair a meeting of the Executive Board on October 11 and the General Assembly the following day.
