Congress MLA for last 25 years defeated in Assam polls

PM Manmohan Singh had campaigned for Narah,whose wife is the Lok Sabha MP from Lakhimpur.

Assam Cultural Affairs and Sports Minister Bharat Chandra Narah (INC),MLA for the last consecutive 25 years,has lost to AGP’s Naba Kumar Doley in Dhakuakhana by 5,600 votes in the Assembly polls.

Narah,a firebrand All Assam Students Union leader during the Assam Agitation,was a minister in the last two Congress terms and also in the first AGP ministry when he belonged to the regional party in 1985.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had campaigned for Narah,whose wife is the Lok Sabha MP from Lakhimpur,under which Dhakuakhana Assembly constituency falls.
