BJP on Tuesday objected to Chinese government’s statement against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, and said India should take up this “assault on the country’s sovereignty” strongly at the diplomatic fora.

“These are direct assaults by China on India’s sovereignty. Of late, the dimension of these diplomatic aggressions and physical incursions have increased. Government of India should take a strong stand on the matter and take up this issue with China,” senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said.

China on Tuesday expressed “strong” dissatisfaction over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh about ten days ago for electioneering.

“We demand the Indian side address China’s serious concerns and not trigger disturbance in the disputed region so as to facilitate the healthy development of China-India relations,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said.

BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy described this statement as “strong and to a great extent, disrespectful”.

“We share an unfenced border with China, which does not recognise the McMahon line. It is occupying 35,000 sq km of land in Kashmir. There have been repeated incursions in Sikkim,Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh,” he said.

BJP demanded that the Prime Minister should himself send a strong reply to China.
