BJP on Wednesday demanded a ban on the controversial book ‘Shivarayanchya Badnamichi Kendre’ (Forces who Vilify Shivaji) by Purushottam Khedekar for its alleged anti-Brahmin diatribe.

Raising the issue in the legislative assembly,BJP member Devendra Phadanvis said “independent” authors have filed police complaints against Khedekar but the government has not yet acted on the contents of the book.

Phadnavis read out an excerpt from the book, according to which the author uses abusive language to characterise the Brahmin community.

Home Minister R R Patil is expected to give his reply in the matter in two days.

Meanwhile,Phadanvis moved a breach of privilege notice against 25 ministers and secretaries for failing to reply to his unstarred questions.

A breach of privilege motion was separately moved against four other ministers — Balasaheb Thorat,Prakash Solanki,Sanjay Deotale and Anil Deshmukh — for not having fulfilled assurances given in the previous sessions.
