Kerala gold smuggling case: NIA arrests four more for financing smuggling

The NIA said the four have been arrested “for conspiring with other arrested accused persons and for financing smuggling of gold through import cargo addressed to the UAE Consulate at Thiruvananthapuram, besides receiving such smuggled gold and proceeds from the smuggling”.

The NIA has arrested four more people in connection with the Kerala gold smuggling case. The accused have been identified as Jifsal C V and Muhammed Abdu Shameem from Kozhikode and Aboobacker and Abdul Hameed P M from Malappuram.

The NIA said the four have been arrested “for conspiring with other arrested accused persons and for financing smuggling of gold through import cargo addressed to the UAE Consulate at Thiruvananthapuram, besides receiving such smuggled gold and proceeds from the smuggling”.

The agency also conducted searches at the homes of the accused in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts on Wednesday. Among the locations searched was Malabar Jewellery owned by Aboobacker, Ameen Gold in Malappuram owned by Abdul Hameed and Ambi Jewellery, Kozhikode owned by accused Shamsudheen.
