The National Conference on Monday asked its workers to be “part of this struggle”, referring to the protests triggered by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani.

The opposition party also threw its weight behind the separatists, calling their agitation a ‘’justice struggle”.

Speaking on the 111th birth anniversary of NC founder Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah said, “I want to tell the workers of NC that do not be out of this struggle. I warn you. We are a part of this struggle. We have fought every time for the interests of this state.”

The NC president and former Union minister also urged separatist leaders to move forward, saying his party was with them as long as they took the “nation forward in the right manner”.

“I want to tell Hurriyat leaders not to go their separate ways, be united and we are also standing with you. Do not think of us as your enemies,” he said.

Regarding the five-month-long protests, Abdullah said the NC was with those who were agitating for the rights of the people of Kashmir.

Abdullah said many had been injured or jailed. “The fire that has started will not be extinguished until India and Pakistan do justice with us. The more they suppress it, the more it will rise,” he said.
