Srinagar militant attack leaves Amritsar resident dead, another critical

An Amritsar resident was killed and another injured as suspected militants fired on the two men in Srinagar on Wednesday evening.

Police said the injured person is critical. The incident took place at Shalakadal area of Srinagar’s old city.

Police sources said the militants fired at the men from close range. They were rushed to the hospital, where Amritpal Singh (31) was declared dead on arrival.

“Terrorists fired upon a non-local identified as Amritpal Singh, resident of Amritsar, at Shaheed Gunj Srinagar, who succumbed to the injuries,” the J&K police said in a post on X. “One more person is grievously injured and evacuated for medical attention.”

Immediately after the attack, a joint team of the J-K Police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area to trace and arrest the attackers.
