Jaipur truck accident news: A busy Monday afternoon in Jaipur’s Harmada area turned into a nightmare when a speeding dumper truck mowed down everything in its path smashing into cars, motorbikes, and pedestrians over a 300-metre stretch. The rampage left 13 people dead and at least 10 others injured on Loha Mandi road.
Jaipur District Collector Jitendra Soni confirmed that 13 people died and 10 others are being treated at SMS Hospital’s trauma centre, several in critical condition.
This is the second such accident in two days. At least 15 people, including 10 women and four children, died and others were injured when a tempo traveller rammed into a stationary trailer truck in Phalodi area on Sunday evening.
A dumper truck, reportedly driven rashly and suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, ploughed into at least 17 vehicles on a busy road in Jaipur’s Harmada area near Loha Mandi. The 300-metre-long trail of destruction left 13 people dead and at least 10 injured.
The dumper came speeding from Road No. 14 towards the Loha Mandi petrol pump and began hitting vehicles in its path. It smashed into cars, motorbikes, and pedestrians before finally colliding with a trailer truck on the Delhi-Ajmer Highway. CCTV footage showed the dumper speeding at over 100 kmph.
The locals described the incident as a “massacre.” “We saw people pulling out one body after another from the wrecked cars. Some were trapped inside, others were lying on the road. It was chaos, screams and blood everywhere,” said a local shopkeeper.
Among the deceased were members of a family from Agra, Nanji Bhai, his brother, two women, and a child, who were returning from Khatushyamji after offering prayers.
Another victim, Mahendra (38), a weaver from Jaipur’s Bainad Road, died along with his niece Bhanu (5). His older niece Varsha (19) is in critical condition at the trauma centre.
Jaipur District Collector Jitendra Soni said, “Thirteen people died and 10 are injured. The injured are being treated at SMS Hospital’s trauma centre.”
Additional Police Commissioner Rajiv Pachar added that the dumper was driven recklessly. The driver reportedly hit a car first, and when locals tried to stop him, he accelerated further, hitting more vehicles before being caught.
The locals managed to nab the driver after the collision and handed him over to police. Authorities said the driver is injured, and a medical examination will determine whether he was intoxicated at the time.
