ISRO Rocket Launch Today News Live Updates: CMS-03, the heaviest communication satellite launched by ISRO from Indian soil, has been delivered to its intended orbit. This marks a successful launch of the agency’s heaviest rocket LVM3. In his address from the Mission Control Center post launch, ISRO chairman Dr V Narayanan described the LVM 3 satellite as ‘Bahubali,’ in an apparent reference to its heavylift capability.

The launcher: ISRO’s heaviest launcher is also one of its most successful, with all seven of its flight putting satellites in the intended orbits. It is the launch vehicle that took both Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3 to space, in addition to communication satellites GSAT-19 and GSAT-29.
ISRO chairman Dr. V. Narayanan said "The CMS-03 is a multi-band satellite with coverage over the wide oceanic region, including the Indian landmass, and designed to provide services for at least 15 years. The satellite incorporates a host of new technologies and is a shining example of atmanirbhar bharat."
Celebrating the success of the LVM3-M5 launch, agency chairman Dr. V. Narayanan congratulated the ISRO community, industrial partners, project teams and their members, and said, "Today's mission has brought another glory to India,...till today, we have done eight LVM-3 launches,...and all the launches so far have been 100 per cent successful."
He attributed the success to the work culture at ISRO, the mechanisms for review, and the work of the teams and industrial partners.
He noted that the agency's heaviest rocket, the LVM 3, had to be improved to increase the payload capability by 10 per cent compared to the previous LVM-M4, carrying the Chandrayaan 3.
The hicommunication satellite CMS-03 has separated, marking a successful launch. "The satellite {has been} delivered to its intended orbit," deputy project director of the SSLV Launch Complex P Madhuri said.
Launch reached its the third stage, the C25 Cryogenic Stage, alongside the shutoff of alongside the L110 shutoff. The rocket is moving at a velocity of 4.604 km per second.
The vehicle is headed towards circularisation of its orbit.
LVM3–M5 has achieved S200 and payload fairing separation. The rocket is in the L110 stage.
LVM3–M5, has taken off from Sriharikota, carrying the hicommunication satellite CMS-03. The launch vehicle is at the S200 stage, running on Strap-On Boosters fuelled by solid propellant (HTPB). The S200 separation will take place in about 131 seconds when it has reached a speed of 2.005 km per second.
The launch of LVM3-M5 will take place in seven minutes, deputy project director of the SSLV Launch Complex P Madhuri said.
The LVM3-M5 is a three-stage heavy-lift launch vehicle, each stage using a different type of fuel and playing a specific role in taking the satellite from Earth to space.

2. Core Stage (L110 Stage)

Fuel Type: Cryogenic propellant (Liquid Hydrogen + Liquid Oxygen)

The mission director of the LVM3–M5 CMS-03 mission has directed to start the automatic launch sequence.
Deputy project director of the SSLV Launch Complex P Madhuri said, "Subject to satisfactory conformation, the onboard computer is set to flight mode close to the launch."
India’s previous heavy satellites were put in orbit by other private launchers. The 5,854-kg GSAT 11 and 4,181-kg GSAT-24 were launched by French company Ariane space. ISRO also used the service of Elon Musk’s SpaceX last year to put in orbit the 4,700-kg GSAT-20 satellite.
The LVM3-M5 will launch from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC or SHAR) in Sriharikotta.
Conceived and implemented as a facility upgradation to support for the increasing launch demands, SLP became operational in 2005.
The facility follows the Integrate, Transfer and Launch (ITL) concept, wherein, the vehicle after getting assembled on a Mobile Launch Pedestal in the Vehicle Assembly Building(VAB) is moved to the launch pad in a vertical position, on a rail track.
The SLP can well support Cryogenic and earth storable propellant storage, servicing and transport.
So far, the SLP has witnessed 24 launches.
LVM3, earlier referred to as the Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle Mark 3 (GSLV Mk 3), is the operational heavy lift Launch Vehicle of ISRO and has completed seven consecutive successful missions.
It uses solid, liquid, as well as cryogenic-fuel-based engines to put up to 8,000 kg in low Earth orbit (up to an altitude of 2,000 km from Earth’s surface) and up to 4,000 kg in geosynchronous orbit (about 36,000 km).
LVM3-M5 is the fifth Operational Flight of launch vehicle LVM3.
CMS-03 is a multiband communication satellite, weighing 4,410 kg will be the heaviest satellite to be launched to Geo-synchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) from Indian soil.
It will be placed in a transfer orbit of around 29,970 km x 170 km from the surface of the Earth.
This is the first time that India will send such a heavy satellite into space.
Earlier, ISRO had to contract out the launch of its heavier satellites to private space agencies in other countries. The satellite will travel on board an LVM3 rocket, dubbed ‘Bahubali’ for its heavy-lift capability.

The 5,854-kg GSAT 11 and 4,181-kg GSAT-24 were launched by Ariane space. ISRO also used the service of Elon Musk’s SpaceX last year to put in orbit the 4,700-kg GSAT-20 satellite.
The Bengaluru-headquartered space agency has been utilising launch vehicles provided by France-headquartered Arianespace for launching over 4,000 kg heavy satellites from French Guiana. ISRO had previously launched its heaviest communication satellite GSAT-11 on December 5, 2018 from Kourou launch base, French Guiana by Ariane-5 VA-246 rocket. It weighed about 5,854 kg.
The CMS-03 satellite will travel onboard the 43.5 metre tall LVM3-M5 rocket, dubbed as 'Bahubali' for its heavylift capability.
The space agency said that the launch vehicle has been fully assembled and integrated with the spacecraft and it has been moved to the second launch pad here for taking up pre-launch operations.

The launch vehicle, in its first flight in 2014, took a crew module for the country’s first-ever re-entry test to orbit. This is very important, especially for the human mission, where the space agency would need to ensure that the astronauts safely return to Earth, even through the massive heat generated due to friction in the atmosphere.

The current launch is a milestone towards the growing capability of the LVM3 rocket, a modified version of which will also be used under the Gaganyaan mission to put humans in space.
ISRO’s heaviest launcher is also one of its most successful, with all seven of its flights putting satellites in the intended orbits. It is the launch vehicle that took both Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3 to space, in addition to communication satellites GSAT-19 and GSAT-29.
To compare, four of the 18 launches undertaken by its slightly less powerful cousin, GSLV, have failed. When it comes to the space agency’s workhorse PSLV, three of the 63 missions undertaken have failed, with the most recent being in May this year, when the EOS-9 satellite could not be put in orbit after the third stage did not work as intended.
