Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to India for a “brief, working visit” before elections in both countries. This will be his second visit to New Delhi, coming just over a year after his first.

Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said New Delhi has agreed to receive Netanyahu for the visit, but the dates are yet to be finalised.

Netanyahu had visited India in January 2018, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi had traveled to Tel Aviv in 2017, becoming the first Indian PM to tour the Jewish state.

Both leaders spoke over the phone earlier this month, when Israel’s National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbath visited New Delhi.

Netanyahu has recently traveled extensively to strengthen Israel’s standing in the international community – something his supporters have been using to project him as the only leader who can drum up support for the country.

Israel will hold elections for the Knesset (Parliament) on April 9.
