The Ministry of External Affairs has recently announced a slew of measures to simplify the application for passports. The ministry launched a scheme under which a person can apply for a passport from anywhere in India, irrespective of the place of stay.

For a new Indian Passport online application, the required documents usually fall under several categories, including proof of address, proof of birth, and identity proof, along with additional documents. Here’s a general list of documents you may need:

Indian Passport online application: Proof of date of birth (any of the following)

However, Aadhaar card/E-Aadhaar, EPIC, PAN card, driver’s license and Pay Pension Order will be accepted as proof of Date of Birth only if it has the precise Date of Birth of the applicant.

Indian Passport online application: List of documents required for address proof 

According to the Passport Seva Online Portal, furnishing the UID/Aadhaar card will expedite the processing of passport applications. Also, an Aadhaar letter/card or the e-Aadhaar will be accepted as Proof of Address (POA) and Proof of Photo-Identity (POI) both for availing passport-related services.
