A 12th grade Indian student in Nigeria,whose poems have been published in newspapers here,will soon have her works compiled as a book.
Neelanjana Shakya,the daughter of an Indian embassy official here,has published her poems ‘Particles of Imagination’ in popular Nigerian papers like Guardian,Thisday,Vanguard and Independent and readers have expressed the desire to have them in one volume.
Shakya,a 12th grade pupil at Indian Language School in Lagos has also had her poems reviewed by experts who praised her fascinating and vivid imagination.
A publisher has been approached to have the works published,the writer said at press conference in Lagos.
“Only extensive study can master such verses,her delivery is superb,” the deputy editor of Guardian Newspapers Jewel Dafinone had said in a commentary on the budding poet.
However,Shakya who is the daughter of Raj Kumar,the Head of Chancery at the Indian Embassy in Lagos told the media that she would like to be a physicist rather than a poet.
Her word: “I would rather be a physicist because I believe in practicality”.
She said she had never written in order to become known as a poet but her teacher’s appreciation encouraged her to write.
“When I showed my works to my teacher,encouraged me to go along and publish it,” Shakya,who started writing at the age of 11,said.
