Woman,paramour arrested for murder of mother-in-law,husband

The relationship between the two and lust to grab property was the motive behind the murders.

A resident of Nalina Kalan village,Gurdev was found dead at her residence on January 30. After six months,her son Gurjant was also found dead at his home.

“Nobody got suspicious since Gurdev was an elderly lady and Gurjant was a known drunkard. But the inside story was that Gurjant’s wife Paramjit Kaur was having an illicit relationship with Nabha resident Bahadur Singh. They wanted to get married,but Paramjit got married to Gurjant on November 20,2009. She never got along with Gurjant,as they had an age difference of about 8 to 10 years,” DSP H S Sandhu,who led the investigation.

He added: “After marriage also,she continued her affair with Bahadur. She introduced him as his cousin and he frequently visited her. Gurdev suspect them of having an illicit relationship. On January 30,2011,they gave her milk laced with drugs and then asphyxiated her with a quilt. She was cremated the next morning.”

“Since Gurjant had nine acres of land in his name and also some cash in the bank,they wanted to get rid of him as well. On July 10,they gave him a cold drink laced with drugs and then asphyxiated him using a pillow. He was also cremated since she projected it as a natural death,” said Sandhu.

Following this,around Rs 8.5 lakh deposited in a bank in Gurjant’s name was withdrawn by Paramjit. “Gurjant’s brother Kulwant Singh became suspicious and came to know about her affair with Bahadur. He lodged a complaint with the police. We questioned Bahadur’s friend Jagtar Singh and he admitted to the affair. When we detained the accused for questioning,they spilled the beans,” Sandhu said.

They will be produced in court on Monday. While Bahadur is married with two children,Paramjit has a three-year- old son.
