NIA allowed to conduct polygraph test on Naveed

According to its application before the special NIA court, the agency said it has found “inconsistencies” in the LeT militant’s statements.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been permitted to conduct a polygraph test on Mohammad Naveed, the Pakistani terrorist caught after the August 5 attack on a BSF convoy in J&K’s Udhampur.

According to its application before the special NIA court, the agency said it has found “inconsistencies” in the LeT militant’s statements. The NIA had taken Naveed’s custody on August 11, following which he was interrogated in Delhi.

On Monday, NIA Judge Amar Nath, in his order issued after in-camera proceedings, allowed the NIA to conduct a polygraph test on Tuesday “keeping in view the seriousness and gravity of the offence”.

The court also noted that Naveed had also consented to the polygraph test by writing a letter in Urdu which was produced before the court.

The terrorist was arrested after he was caught by villagers in Udhampur when he tried to take some of them hostage. He was sent to police custody for 14 days on August 11 by a Jammu court.
