SHIV Sena president Uddhav Thackeray met Chief Minster Prithviraj Chavan Sunday to present the Senas vision of a public garden on the land of the Mahalaxmi racecourse,the lease for which expired on May 31.
The Chief Minister assured us that no decision will be taken until a consensus is reached, said Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray.
Sena has been insistent that the plot be turned into a public garden. Thackeray was accompanied by senior Sena leader Subhash Desai,Mumbai Mayor Sunil Prabhu and BMC standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale. Thackeray said the CM acknowledged that the concept of the park was good. The Sena president also categorically said he was not insisting the park be named after the late Bal Thackeray.
Over the past few days,Sena has been demanding that a theme park on the lines of Hyde Park in London be developed on the land and that horse racing should be shifted to outskirts of the city.
Of the total 8.5 lakh square metres around the racecourse,almost six lakh square metres belong to the state urban development and the remaining to BMC.
