Two Meghalaya rebels killed in joint operation

Two militants, said to be of the United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) of Meghalaya were killed in a joint operation carried out by the Army and Assam Police near the Assam-Meghalaya border in Goalpara district in the wee hours of Thursday.

Defence PRO Lt Col Suneet Newton said two pistols, two hand grenades and some ammunition were recovered during the operation. A break-away faction of the Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) that laid down arms earlier this week, the UALA was responsible for killing seven persons in Goalpara district of Assam in November last year.
