Tamil movie Kaththi, which came under fire from Tamil fringe groups over alleged business interests of Lankan premier Rajapaksa’s family in Lyca Productions, one of the firms producing the film, will be released under police protection across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
Tamil actor Vijay, who stars in the A R Murugadoss-directed movie, issued a statement Tuesday, confirming that references to Lyca Productions would be removed from the banner and title. “As the producers have agreed to remove the name of Lyca from the title and banner, the conflict has been resolved and decks have been cleared for its release. I hope people enjoy the film this Deepavali,” said the statement. It also thanked J Jayalalithaa, police authorities and exhibitors for their support.
The movie is jointly produced by Subhaskaran’s Lyca Productions and Ayngaran International.
Karunamoorthi, one of the producers of Kaththi, told The Indian Express that the movie would be released as per schedule and police protection would be in place to prevent any untoward incident.
