The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea for deferring the verdict by a Bangalore court in a disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Jayalalithaa will have to step down as the Chief Minister if she is convicted.
A bench led Justice T S Thakur rejected the petition filed by the lawyer, who claimed there would be law and order problems after the pronouncement of verdict and hence the trial court should be asked to postpone it.
“Who are you and why are you concerned about the security? It for the state to take care of it. You don’t have to worry. You have no locus in the matter,” said the bench.
It added the Chief Minister could herself take all appropriate steps if there was any apprehension regarding law and order situation.
