The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a PIL challenging the election of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi from Maninagar constituency as he had submitted an “inappropriate affidavit” to the returning officer.

The PIL pointed out that Modi had not filled his marital status and instead put a hyphen mark. The petitioner claimed this was in violation of the apex court’s orders in this regard.

The Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice P Sathasivam, however, noted that chief election officer had already examined Modi’s affidavit on receiving a complaint and the court will not sit over his decision.

The PIL was filed by social activist Sunil S,who sought directions to the Election Commission to pass appropriate orders against Modi’s election and quash the decision of ratifying his affidavit in December 2012.
