J&K chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today strongly criticised Shiv Sena for assaulting Sudheendra Kulkarni at Mumbai on Monday ahead of a book launch there and said that politics of hate has no place in the country and fringe elements can’t be allowed to shrink the space for freedom of expression.

The Shiv Sena and Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party are both allies of NDA.

Condemning the attack, Sayeed said that Kulkarni is a well-known political analyst of the country.

Sayeed termed the attack on Kulkarni as unfortunate. “The hawkish attitude of certain fringe elements cannot be allowed to shrink the space for freedom of expression,’’ he said adding that politics of hate has no place in a country like India. “Those who think they can resort to political hooliganism and get away with it are living in a fool’s paradise,” he said, while expressing solidarity with Sudheendra Kulkarni.
