Six sentenced to life imprisonment

Additional District and Sessions Judge Harpal Singh on Tuesday sentenced six members of a family to life imprisonment in a 2010 murder case and also imposed fine of Rs 5,000 on each. An additional six months of prison will be applicable if fine is not paid. The convicted persons are Kulwant Singh,his two sons Lovepreet and Manpreet and three nephews Satpal,Gurlal and Iqbal. The six allegedly killed one Nandu of Sahoke village with axes.

ITIs get 15 days to fulfil requirements

The Technical Education Department of Punjab government on Tuesday gave 15 days time to all 23 private ITIs affiliated with National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT),for fulfilling the terms and conditions. The admission process at these ITIs was temporarily stopped due to lack of equipment and faculty.

Two labourers die in building collapse

Two labourers died after an under-construction house collapsed in Guru Arjan Dev Nagar near Kot Mit Singh area on Tarn Taran road in Amritsar on Tuesday morning. Police identified one of the labourers as Krishna and Investigating Officer ASI Jarnail Singh said the other victim is yet to be identified. A case has been registered against contractor Jia Lal.

FDA commissionerate set up

The Punjab government has constituted a new Commissionerate of Food and Drug Administration to insure safe and good quality supply of food,drug and cosmetic as per provisions of the Acts enacted. Minister for Health & Family Welfare Madan Mohan Mittal said the commissionerate will be headed by an officer designated as Commissioner,Food and Drug Administration.

Haryana to identify manual scavengers

The Haryana government has decided to conduct a survey of manual scavengers in 76 towns by September 30,2013 and compile the data by October 31. A government spokesperson said: “Survey would be carried out by local bodies for the area falling under municipal limits and the same would be carried out by Panchayat and Development Department in case the area is outside municipal limits.”

Hooda is V-P of Indian Red Cross Society again

Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda has been chosen as the vice-president of Indian Red Cross Society for the third consecutive term. Hooda was chosen by mutual consensus of representatives of the society from all over India in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad,who is also the president of the society.
