The Punjab government is set to reduce toll rates on its state highways. The current charge of more than Re 1 per km is expected to be reduced to 90 paise per km. The new toll policy will be considered by the cabinet on Friday.
The cabinet will also discuss the revised rates for the regularisation of illegal colonies in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had on July 31 reviewed the regularisation policy and almost halved the compounding fee to be paid by individual plot owners.
The policy applicable for a period of one year starting April 1,2013,was cleared by the cabinet early this month. The Punjab Assembly had approved the move in its budget session. Only those unapproved colonies or buildings constructed before April 1,2013,have been considered under this policy.
