District bar association at Madurai has moved a petition in the Madras High Court’s Madurai bench seeking the immediate removal of portraits of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa from the government institutions.

The petition citing that showcasing pictures of Jayalalithaa, even after her conviction in a disproportionate asset case on October 27, is against the norms set by the government. The petition said the state government has failed to follow these rules and allows the pictures of a convicted person, who was also disqualified from her elected posts in the assembly.

Hearing the petition, the HC has asked the state government to respond within two weeks.
